Work Experience - YR10
We are pleased to inform you that Year 10 students will be taking part in Shelley College’s Work Experience Programme this academic year. Work experience placements will be taking place from Monday 29th June to Friday 3rd July. Following feedback from parents, students and employers, we have extended the programme from two days to a full five‑day experience. This will ensure that all students benefit from a meaningful, sustained placement that truly supports their personal development. Please note that a small number of trips are taking place during this week; in this case, students will be expected to be on work experience for the days they are not on a trip. Should they wish to organise further work experience, we would encourage them to do this during holidays or over weekends.
Any students who remain in school during this week will follow their normal sequence of lessons. It is therefore essential that students secure a placement to make the most of this valuable opportunity.
This year, we are also pleased to share that we have secured funding to trial NYBEP as our work experience provider. A selected group of pupils will have their placement managed directly through NYBEP’s app; these pupils will receive a separate email with instructions. If you have not received this email, placements should be confirmed using the Microsoft Form (https://forms.office.com/e/qFkZhNDw7k) so that we can liaise directly with employers to collect the required paperwork.
Further guidance—including email/letter templates, telephone scripts, FAQs, and a list of potential employers—can be found here, and has also been emailed to students: Student Support Documents
Important Logistics
• Students must first agree their placement with an employer and then add the details through the Microsoft Form.
• After the form is submitted, the school will contact the employer to collect the necessary Risk Assessment, Health & Safety information and permissions.
• It is vital that the initial information submitted is accurate, and that employers are informed we will be contacting them.
• If an employer requires an application by email or letter, students must complete this and receive confirmation before submitting the placement via the form. Supporting resources are available on the school website.
Next Steps for Students and Parents
• Please read the placement guidance and begin contacting potential employers as soon as possible.
• If you have any questions, please contact our Work Experience team through shelley.workexp@sharemat.co.uk
• We strongly advise students to arrange a pre‑placement visit outside school hours—such as during the Easter holiday—to gain familiarity with the workplace.
