Meet the team

Mr Cowling - Head of Sixth Form College

With 20 years of experience in education, I’ve had the opportunity to teach in various schools and across different countries. For the past four years, I’ve served as the Head of Sixth Form at Shelley College—a role I find incredibly fulfilling. Supporting and guiding Sixth Form students as they transition from school to university or the workforce is both rewarding and exciting. These years are full of growth and potential, and I’m proud of every member of our Sixth Form community and their dedication to creating an inclusive, welcoming environment.

I look forward to welcoming you to Shelley College. Here, we’re committed to helping you achieve your goals in an environment that is exciting, challenging, and deeply rewarding.

Mrs Murphey - Student Manager

Mrs Stead - Administrative Officer

I have been part of the trust for five years, working in a variety of administrative roles. Currently, my primary focus is on Data and Exams in the main school, though I also assist in the Sixth Form with tasks like attendance and attitudes to learning administration. You may see me in the Sixth Form office occasionally or around the main school—please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I’m always happy to help or guide you to the right person!

Miss Stocks - Careers Advisor

Since joining Shelley College in September 2024, I’ve served as the Careers Adviser for Years 9 through 13. Before this role, I managed an Alternative Provision in mainstream education and previously led an Isolation Unit. My background includes extensive experience supporting young people in a variety of educational settings.

Here’s how I can support students:

  • 1:1 and/or group career guidance sessions
  • Assistance with college applications
  • Help with CVs, cover letters, and personal statements
  • On-site access to a Careers Adviser in both school and Sixth Form
  • Support for apprenticeship pathways
  • Access to work experience opportunities for Year 10 and Sixth Form students
  • Support and guidance for work placements
  • Mock interview sessions and interview advice and tips
  • Opportunities to meet guest speakers in assemblies and ask questions
  • Access to our Careers Fair for direct connections with employers, colleges, training providers, and apprenticeships
  • Organising trips to colleges and employers for hands-on learning experiences throughout the year

Steph - School Nurse

I’m Steph, a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse and school nurse with over 11 years of school nurse experience, including six years working with Sixth Form students at Shelley College.

Each Friday morning, I offer a confidential health drop-in service and one-on-one support sessions to assist students with a range of needs. These include emotional health and well-being, managing physical health conditions, sexual health advice and services (including the C Card scheme), and general guidance for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Additionally, I collaborate with external agencies such as The Base (Young People’s Substance and Alcohol Team), GP surgeries, sexual health outreach, and CAMHS to ensure students receive comprehensive support. Sometimes, all someone needs is a listening ear, and I’m here to help with that too.

Mrs Holt - Enrishment Lead

Since 2015, I've been the Director of Design Technology at Shelley College, where I also oversee extracurricular and enrichment activities across the school. A key part of my role involves working with Sixth Form students to shape our enrichment curriculum to include the skills and interests they want to explore beyond their studies. This includes areas like First Aid training, IT skill development, work experience opportunities, and physical health improvement. Students are also encouraged to establish their own societies or take on roles supporting teachers in the classroom.

Sheryl - Catering Manager

I've been a part of Shelley College for many years, possibly one of the longest-serving staff members! For the past year, I've been working closely with the Sixth Form student leadership teams to make sure you always have delicious and varied food options. I also manage the Altitude café, ensuring it’s a safe and welcoming space for everyone.

If there’s something you’d like to see on the menu, feel free to stop by and share your suggestions!
