Entry Requirements

The aim of our entry criteria policy is to ensure students are taking courses they are well suited to and are able to make progress in. We seek to provide courses well matched to the needs of our students, helping them to follow their chosen progression pathway.

Our main College entry requirements are as follows:

Entry Requirements

A minimum of five 9-4 grades at GCSE, including English and Maths (at least to Level 4) from five different subject areas.

Purely vocational pathway require a minimum of four 9-4 grades at GCSE, including English and Maths (at least to Level 4) from four different subject areas.

As well as our general entry requirements, there are certain subjects which hold individual expectations based on GCSE outcomes.  These are:

Applied Science

This is a Cambridge Technical Level 3 Extended Certificate in Applied Science which is the equivalent of one A Level.

Art & Design

Other than our general entry requirements there are no additional qualifications needed to study Art. We recommend students have a good grade at GCSE to form the foundation of their work but do accept students if they have not studied Art before.

Biology

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 5 on the higher paper in the specific science and a 5 on higher paper in Mathematics. Students entering on a 5 will be monitored to ensure they are suitable for the course. In order to study more than one Science students must have achieved a 6 in a Science.

Those entering on a 5 will be monitored to ensure they are suitable for the course.

Business Studies

This is a Cambridge Technical Level 3 Extended Certificate in Business which is the equivalent of one A Level.

Other than our general entry requirements there are no additional qualifications needed to study Business.

Cambridge Technicals in Sports and Physical Studies

This is a Cambridge Technical Level 3 Diploma in Sport which is the equivalent of two A Levels.

Other than our general entry requirements there are no additional qualifications needed to study Sport. 

Chemistry

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 5 on the higher paper in the specific Science and a 5 on higher paper in Mathematics. Students entering on a 5 will be monitored to ensure they are suitable for the course. In order to study more than one Science students must have achieved a 6 in a Science.

Computer Science

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 5 or above in Mathematics.

Dance

Other than our general entry requirements there are no additional qualifications needed to study Dance.

Drama and Theatre Studies

Other than our general entry requirements there are no additional qualifications needed to study Drama.

Design & Technology: Product Design

Other than our general entry requirements there are no additional qualifications needed to study Product Design.  

Economics

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 5 or above in Mathematics.

English Language and Literature combined

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 5 or above in English Language or English Literature.  Students must achieve a grade 4 in both as a minimum.

French

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 5 on the higher paper in the specific language.

Geography

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 4 or above in Geography if they have studied it before or a 4 in a science subject if they have not studied it before.

History

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 5 or above in History if they have studied it before or a 5 or above in English if they have not studied it before.

Mathematics

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 6 or above on the higher paper.  

Those entering on a 6 will be monitored to ensure they are suitable for the course.

Media Studies

Other than our general entry requirements there are no additional qualifications needed to study Music. We recommend students have passed their GCSE Media if they have studied it before. 

Modern Foreign Languages

Other than our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 5 or above in a specific language.

It is recommended that students have studied on the higher paper at GCSE.

Music

This is a Cambridge Technical Level 3 Extended Certificate in Music which is the equivalent of one A Level.  

Other than our general entry requirements there are no additional qualifications needed to study Music. We recommend students have passed their GCSE Music or can play an instrument. 

Philosophy and Ethics

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 4 or above in English Language or Literature.

Physics

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 5 on the higher paper in the specific Science and a 5 on higher paper in Mathematics. Students entering on a 5 will be monitored to ensure they are suitable for the course. In order to study more than one Science students must have achieved a 6 in a Science.  Those entering on a 5 will be monitored to ensure they are suitable for the course.

Psychology

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 5 or above in English, Maths and Science.

Religious Studies

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 4 in an English subject.

Sociology

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 5 or above in English Language or Literature.

Spanish

As well as our general entry requirements, students must achieve a 5 on the higher paper in the specific language.

The Sixth Form will review applications and may revoke offered places based on attendance, behaviour and references from schools.
