Virgin Mission Galactic Competition

On Thursday 16th of July 2009, four Year 9 students Robyn Whiting, Jordan Kennett, Leonnard Kenny and David Rodgers will be travelling to London to take part grand finals of Mission Virgin Galactic. Working as a team students prepared a PowerPoint presentation and a prototype model for the panel of judges.

Our Year 9 students have worked on this project since January and have essential worked independently to meet the criteria set out in the competition guidelines. The regional heat took place on Friday 8th May at RAF Linton-on-Ouse near York. Students spoke with confidence and commitment.

They demonstrated their knowledge of science and engineering with respect to space flight and explained how they made their prototype model which was a multifunctional model of Virgin's Space Ship II. The executive desk tidy was manufactured using vacuum forming and CAD CAM  in Technology with the help of Mr Turner.

After a tough selection process the judges have selected Shelley College students to go through to the grand finals of Mission Virgin Galactic at this years RIAT which will take place on 16th July.
