Subject Content
This course focuses on the artistic qualities of dance and the use of dance movement as a medium for expression and communication. Dance appreciation is taught through study of a variety of dance styles. Understanding the work of different choreographers allows candidates to learn new movement vocabulary and skills, which will benefit their own performance. Candidates create and perform dances, which they present to others.
The Set dance is a performance of a piece of work which is approximately of one minute duration. This work is examined by AQA. The written examination comprises questions based on the study of two professional dance works. Appreciation of dance will be extended through visits to local theatres to see the work of different dance companies. The skill of choreography is developed through production on short solo and a group dance for 2 to 5 performers.
