Year 9 Technology is currently balanced between projects in Food Technology and Design Technology. To maintain this balance the timetable is organised in a half-termly rotation between the two subject areas. The programme provides students with opportunities to develop their knowledge and creative skill by working with our specialist facilities.
Food Technology:‘License to Cook’.
Module One: Recipes based on Healthy Eating.
Module Two: Recipes based on Mix and Match Meals.
The first module may revisit some of the skills students have used before and module two is designed to enable students to put together simple meals as all main course dishes can be interchanged with any of the deserts. We expect to develop the student’s skill base and knowledge of the use of ingredients to enable them to move on to study at GCSE and GCE.
Design Technology:
Project Theme 1: Electronic Dice. Focuses on precision and accuracy to build the circuit and project management and ICT skills to identify and present a commercial need for the product.
Project Theme 2: Test Tube Vase. Focuses on skills in CAD/CAM to enable the development of a 3D promotional ‘centre-piece’ that will reflect the commercial style of a chosen Client.
Project Theme 3: Point of Sale Packaging and Promotion:- Students use 2D software to develop professional/commercial standard designs for a chosen Client. Students are encouraged to develop their design work in an environment rich in displays of both 2 and 3D GCSE and GCE coursework.
