At Shelley College we follow the OCR Salters (Specification B) GCE Advanced course. The chemistry taught in AS is revisited in A2 and students have the opportunity to extend their knowledge as the course progresses.
This context-led course remains well supported by the University of York Science Education Group. The new specification builds on the considerable success of the current course but takes account of progressive feedback. It has been improved to further enhance teachers’ and learners’ enjoyment, while complying with revised QCA requirements.
The course is well supported by a ‘Chemical Ideas’ text book and a ‘Storylines’ text book. This allows the course to deliver the essential chemistry, whilst remaining in an everyday context through the relation to life experiences given in the storylines.
Practical skills and independent study skills are improved through internal assessments and i-mods. There is also the opportunity to develop key skills through presentations and written work.
